ASSESS THE IMPORTANCE OF IDEOLOGY ON THE FORMULATION OF NAZI FOREIGN POLICY to 1939 From Hitler’s appointment as Chancellor on January 30 1933 to the beginning of WWII on Sept 3 1939, the Nazi state pursued an aggressive foreign policy that contributed largely to the outbreak of war. This foreign policy was largely reflective of the goals Hitler had set out in his 1924 autobiography â€Å"Mein Kampf†, particularly Germany’s easterly moving aggressions. However, although Nazi ideology played a dominant role in structuring foreign policy to 1939, it was also greatly influenced by the response of the Allies to aggressions and therefore Hitler’s perception of which foreign policies could be most successful. Hence, whilst Nazi ideology surmises the†¦show more content†¦On top of this, by 1938 Germany was experiencing high living standards as a result of Hitler’s volksgemeinschaft and was a formidable power, thus the Allies recognised German desire for expansion into a previously had region. It also evident that Hitler understoo d this detail in the timing of the Anschluss-when in 1936 Hitler had made similar demands, the Allies stood opposed, and the Wehrmacht was ill-equipped to defy Allied wishes. In 1938 Hitler understood Germany’s military capacity, and used its position to pursue the foreign policies based on the ideologies in Mein Kampf. By 1938, Hitler had acquired all desired territories with relative ease, as a result of their size and insignificance to the balance of power on the European continent. It was this confidence that allowed Hitler to pursue his most aggressive foreign policy yet-the demand for the Sudetenland. The Sudetenland was part of Czechoslovakia, which had been created post WWI. Previously German territory, it still contained 3 million German speakers. Hitler’s demand was based on the reasoning that its German population should be united with the rest of Germany, in spite of Czechoslovakia’s sovereignty. In this demand, Hitler demonstrated his willingness to defy the right of independent states in order to achieve his own ends. President Banes refused not only out of principal, but also because of the region’s massive industrial production and abundance of resources. Assignment 2 Advertisement Analysis - 2042 Words

[pic] [pic] [pic] TABLE OF CONTENTS `McDonalds Advertisement Analysis 3 Dolce Gabbana Advertisement Analysis 4 Givenchy Perfume Ange Ou Demon Advertisement Analysis 6 McDonalds Advertisement Analysis McDonalds’ advertisements are everywhere. The advertisements are on TV, radio, and in magazines. It is nearly impossible to go one day without seeing one. The company spends millions of dollars on advertising their product each and every year to a number of different target audiences. In this advertisement McDonalds is advertising one of the value meals on their menu. The target audience that McDonalds is aiming the advertisement to is middle to upper-class people. It is very effective because it shows that the high class†¦show more content†¦The ad gives the viewer a sense that men are encouraged to take what they want at their own convenience. This ad objectifies women in a way that makes them seem pathetic and vulnerable. The DG ad is an example of how the media are influencing our consumer culture into thinking that this is the way men should act towards women. In this ad there is a very beautiful, young woman laying in distress, under a very attractive male, who is holding her down by her wrists. Around them are three other half-naked men who are also very good-looking. The others gathered around them are just starring blankly at the woman being held down in distress. I think that the product being advertised by Dolce Gabbana is women and men’s apparel. As I look at this ad I try to imagine a prospective buyer looking at this ad for the first time. What do they notice? What appeals to them and persuades them to purchase this item? Is it the rippling, glistening 10-pack abs of the aggressive half-naked males, or is it the utter calmness and still flawless physique of the women being held down? I believe that this advertisement is a good depiction of the some of the gender roles and sexist mindsets that our media is embedding into the youth of our generation. This ad seems to give the impression that it is acceptable for men to treatShow MoreRelatedCom306D1309 Words   |  6 PagesDEPARTMENT OF COMMUNICATION SCIENCE COM 306-D COMMUNICATION RESEARCH ASSIGNMENT 1 TASK 5.10 DUE DATE: 27 FEBRUARY 2011 STUDENT NAME: CHANE ARNOLDS STUDENT NR: 35599243 SIGNED DECLARATION I, Chanel Arnolds, hereby declare that this assignment is my own work, except where I have clearly acknowledged the work off others by means of correct referencing techniques. How might the support specialist and customer both be satisfied if there has to be compromise from one side of the conversation? Communication is directed towards an audience solely based on their comprehension of the entire thought process of the person presenting the material, in the message being delivered. Regardless of formatting, messages for the most part, are highly predictable, and repetitive; which helps individuals conquer difficulties brought on by barriers within the communication process. Also; repeating information effectively helps get the point across to an audience as the main part of the message, and this allows the audience to retain the focus points of the communication. An example of this would be, if the speaker gives a long presentation, which includes key elements of the message. In this case key elements would be lost, so it is imperative to emphasize the points of the message with a method of repetitious messaging; another method that can be utilized for the purpose of communicating main points. The Taming Of The Shrew Essays (1507 words) -

The Taming Of The Shrew We think people act the way that their true identity is. Every person has disguised their true identity at one point in time has. We display these false characters or put on our masks for some personal gain. Many times, complicated situations occur because of the changing of people's masks between reality and illusion (Cahn 39). In a similar way, The Taming of the Shrew by William Shakespeare, does just that. He creates a soap operasituation by placing different masks on his characters. Katharina does not know how to properly act to gain attention, but instead she places a maskon herself that becomes her reality. She is known throughout Padua as the shrew of the town. In the story, you could imply that her mother is dead. Therefore, when Katharina was young, she played the role of mother to Bianca (Leonard 23). As the sisters grew older, Katharina did not need to play the maternal role to her younger sibling by being harsh. However, Katherina could not switch the gears of that character since everyone already knew her by that personality. She knows about Bianca's deceptive ways. Bianca is being courted by several men and has her choice of prospective husbands. However, due to customs in that era, Katharina, must be married before her younger sister. In the early acts, Katharina's attitude appears as if she does not care at all about getting married. Instead, she yearns for her father's attention, but she goes about getting it in the wrong ways. Unlike her elder sister, Bianca appears to be of a more complacent nature. Katharina dislikes her because their father shows favoritism towards her. Katharina talks back to everyone with her cold but creative remarks and makes her presence known in Act 1 Scene1: Katharina: I'faith, sir, you shall never need to fear. I wis it to not halfway to her heart - But if it were, doubt not her care should be To comb your noodle with a three-legged stool And paint your face and use you like a fool. Act I, Scene I A main characteristic of Katharina is that she is easily upset, becoming verbally and physically violent. She even goes so far as to hit her newly appointed music teacher, Hortensio (Act I, Scene I). Not long after, she hits the only suitor that would woo her, Petruchio. Katherina is convinced that her father does not care for her, especially because he wanted Petruchio to marry her. Perhaps Katherina's belief is true (Cahn 43). Baptista would rather talk to Bianca because of her pleasant personality rather then arguing every point with Katherina. Katharina wants the attention that Bianca receives, but she tries to call the attention in the wrong ways by acting out physically and verbally. Petruchio has to break Katherina out of her shrew character by becoming a character himself. Petruchio came into Padua not knowing what would happen. When he found out about Katherina, he was eager to meet her for two reasons: to gain her wealth and for the challenge of taming her (Act I Scene II). Petruchio's character is that of a gentleman. He opens doors for ladies and is kind and courteous to everyone. As the play goes on, Petruchio marries Katherina. He plans to tame her and unveil her beautiful inner self so he would have a lovely wife (Leonard 31). He begins to show her who is in command starting on their wedding day. Petruchio shows up late to the wedding and caused Katherina to become angry and scared of being stood up. After being married, Petruchio starts the taming process. He refuses to let her sleep and restricts food from her (Act IV, Scene III). Soon Katherina breaks down and starts to act obedient to Petruchio with her mask still being within her reach. Then he shows Katherina who is in command of the relationship by not allowing Katherina to get elegant clothing that she wants. Instead, Petruchio yells at the haberdasher and tailor that brought them and yelling how they are not made correctly. Petruchio is trying to show Katherina what she does and why no one likes that mask. Overtime, Katherina breaks away chunks of her mask until her

Depression Eulogy Essay Example

Depression Eulogy Essay Example Depression Eulogy Essay Depression Eulogy Essay Today we are gathered to mourn the most untimely death of depression. We are here to offer our condolences to depression’s closest company: self-pity, regret, and anguish. Depression went by many different names, to give just a few: sorrow, melancholy, desolation, and many more. Depression led what would most consider to be a successful life, it crept in, influenced many decisions, changed ways of thinking, acting and talking, it took over gradually when finally all that was evident was the effect depression had on those it influenced most. Yes, for some occasions, depression lost the battle to the courageous ones who chose to fight against it, but for most depression won the long and timely battle. Now I will be the one to mediate the influential life of depression. I remember the day depression and I met, I was only twelve but I realized at that very moment depression would have a major impact on my future and I was right. Depression continued to afflict me; gradually tearing me away from friends, family, and from any trace of a life I once had lived. But slowly I let everything I once held dear slip through my fingers like sand and I did nothing to stop it. I ceased caring about what mattered most and I recall when I started taking my depression out on myself when I couldn’t control my depression. It took me years to adjust to depression but eventually depression and I became very close I figured it seems as though I can’t get rid of it now might as well embrace it and that’s exactly what I did, I got very used to the affects depression had on me. In fact you could say depression and I even had a relationship of sorts, more of a mutual relationship than anything else. What depression and I had was each other and I believed for the longest time that that was the way it was always going to be. Well that was my circumstance, I had depression and depression had me; there was no going back and once I understood that everything became clearer. Clear as ever how I should manage my life. Depression had the effect on me to start drawing again, writing poetry, and even harming myself physically. What did depression receive in return? Well, depression received the satisfaction of making me miserable and that couldn’t make depression any happier. Ironic isn’t it? As I said before depression convinced me to start writing again. I recently read one of my dearest works. One that I can solely contribute to my good friend depression. I am going to recite a section of the poem depression helped me write: Now to consider what I want most does nothing more than humiliate me. Thinking of what I could’ve prevented seems to astonishing now. As if too difficult to fathom the nonsense of a most basic question. That is, why breath? Why deal with such anguish for only one happy smile. Not to last forever. Not even for a week. Though such easy questions would for most become as easy an answer not for me. with each step I take it sounds more and more lonely. I now think of nothing to save me. Depression was born August 26 2003 and died April 30 2009. Depression led a successful life. Depression was also good friends with one of my own family members. Unfortunately depression had a bigger influence on Steven. Depression took Steven from us January 12 2009. It was only then that I realized depression was too prominent in my life. I can’t honestly say many goods things about depression except for the fact that it made me stronger and now that it’s dead in my life I will never have to go through that experience again. Although I can thank depression for one thing, for showing me how beautiful life can truly be.

Off and On Compounds

Off and On Compounds Off and On Compounds Off and On Compounds By Mark Nichol Off and on frequently appear as prefixes, but word structure can vary: Should the prefix be hyphenated to the root word, or should the entire word be a closed compound? This post lists examples of such terms. Prefixed words, like compound words, go through an evolutionary process. Unlike as is the case with compounds, however, there is no open phase. Online, offbeat, and the like derive from the idea of being â€Å"on a line† or â€Å"off the beat,† for example, but they never existed as â€Å"on line† or â€Å"off beat.† (â€Å"On line† is a dialectal variant of â€Å"in line,† referring to standing in a queue, but this sense is distinct from the notion of an electronic link.) However, the former did start out in hyphenated form, transitioning during the 1990s as web browsing went mainstream (though a few publications and organizations remain holdouts), while offbeat was coined as a closed compound. Closed off- and on- constructions are prevalent, but some hyphenated terms persist. Generally, however, if the word is a noun, it is closed. Consider the following: offshoot and offspring, and onlooker and onset. (However, off-ramp and on-ramp stubbornly remain hyphenated.) Adjectives seem to be more of a mixed bag: Besides offbeat and online, closed compounds include offsetting and ongoing and the pairs offside and onside, offshore and onshore, and offstage and onstage (all of which are occasionally seen hyphenated). But note the pairs on-air and off-air and off-screen and on-screen, as well as off-color, off-key, off-limits, and off-white. (A few such terms, such as off-screen and on-screen, occasionally appear closed.) Note that phrases beginning with off or on that serve to modify a noun are hyphenated before it, as in â€Å"off-the-cuff remarks† and â€Å"on-the-job injuries.† Treatment after the noun varies, however, according to whether the phrase is permanent or temporary. Off-the-cuff, which appears in dictionaries, is rendered as such after the noun (â€Å"remarks made off-the-cuff†), while â€Å"on the job† is not considered a standing phrase, so it is not hyphenated when it follows a noun (â€Å"injuries that occurred while an employee was on the job†). How does one know the difference between such phrases? One keeps a list or consults a dictionary, or both. Unfortunately, one of these strategies, or a combination of the two, is essential also for confirming the style for terms prefixed by off or on. Want to improve your English in five minutes a day? Health Care Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Health Care - Essay Example This places businesses who offer insurance coverage for their workers at a disadvantage as they spend more on health care. This also affects the households paying for their own coverage and has an impact on their spending on other goods and services. This paper gives a summary of the information on health care costs and the impact it has on society and the economy. The spending on health care has changed over the years and according to reports an average of $6,500 is spent on an individual annually. It is found that sixteen percent of the economy of the gross domestic product (GDP) which represents the total economic activity is devoted to health care. These findings are shocking and the major concern is the rapid increase over the years. Health spending grows faster than all other sectors in the economy for example education, transportation, education, transportation and agriculture that grow at the same rate as the economy. Health spending has been observed to exceed the economic growth over the years and the trends show significant differences between health care and all other sectors in the economy as explained by Shi and Singh (2009).These findings are staggering calling for major reforms in the health care sector since the impact on the economy is very significant. The country spends more on health care than all other developing countries and according to findings by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development. It was found that it spent 13 percent more than next highest spending country and this translates to 90 percent higher than their global competitors. Despite the relatively high spending, it does not maintain substantially better health care as compared to other developed countries. This may be because the wealthy countries can afford to spend more on health care and this is found to be a major correlation between health care and spending. Health studies show that the difference in health spending may be due to investment in
